After he finished his wedding vows, everyone present was waiting for Casey to say "I do." But she just took out her phone and started reading text messages that only incriminated the groom. All the guests were shocked. Was she serious or joking?
Casey and her husband-to-be Alex had been dating for six years. Their families became friends, and their lives became intertwined. Everyone they knew believed the couple was the epitome of true love, until their wedding day...
Casey and her best friends gathered at a glitzy hotel room to celebrate her hen night. They laughed and talked about the dress, the beautiful flowers, the flowing champagne, with the air filled in excitement. Suddenly, Casey's phone lit up with several text messages that would force her to make a life-changing decision.
Casey had been receiving messages all day from her family and friends wishing her love for her big day, but this message was not anything like the others. Coming from an unknown number, it contained a series of screenshots with a single sentence under the pictures. Casey realized that the unknown person in the screenshots was more than familiar to her fiancé. She struggled to hold back her tears and ran to the washroom.
Casey carefully read each text in disbelief. Tears gushed out from her eyes as she trembled with each word. It had come too suddenly for her to take it all in. Shocked, angry, and sad, she threw her phone away. How she wished it was just a joke, but she knew it wasn't.
Fifteen minutes had passed, and her friends noticed she was still in the washroom, so they began knocking on the door. Casey tried to calm down and walked out of the washroom, pretending nothing had happened. She explained briefly that everything was okay, but was it?
The screenshots showed lewd conversations between Alex and another woman, including selfies of the pair and one six-word sentence that read "I wouldn't marry him. Will you?" The texts were dated from several months to only a few days before the wedding. With all the proof there, Casey was painfully aware of Alex's betrayal. "Every word was like a dagger in my heart," Casey said.
Keeping everything to herself, she had no idea what she should do next. She wondered how he could do this to her. "Should I call him now and tell him I knew everything? Should I cancel the wedding? But everyone had already traveled to be here, and everything had been paid for. Should I go through with the wedding and do what was best for us? Or maybe I should do something radical at the wedding itself." Finally, she decided the wedding would continue, but with a few changes.
On the morning of the wedding day, Casey wore her beautiful wedding dress, jewelry, and accessories as planned. She looked radiant, but in Casey's mind, all the dressing up would come in handy for an upcoming drama.
Ironically enough, the weather was perfect for a wedding. The sun was out and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Moreover, all of Casey and Alex's family and friends came with smiles on their faces. Little did they know that things were going to take a sharp turn.
Soon, the ceremony began. As Casey approached the altar and stood opposite Alex, she couldn't help crying, which might have looked like tears of joy and anxiety to others, including Alex. Alex tried to reassure her that everything was going to be OK and began reciting his vows first...
Alex recited his vows successfully and seemed to mean every single word of it. However, Casey felt completely sick after knowing what kind of person her fiancé was. Then it was time for Casey to reciprocate the vows. As she wiped away her tears and regained her composure, she turned to the guests and began her shocking speech that nobody had expected...
"There will be no wedding today. It seems Alex is not who I thought he was," Casey said aloud. Everyone was shocked and looked at Alex. Alex tried to grab Casey's hands but failed. All of a sudden, Casey put down her bouquet, took her phone out, and began reading the texts she had received to all the guests in the hall.
One said "This weekend. You and I. It is on hot stuff. Bring your A-game..." Everyone in attendance gasped in horror and couldn't believe what they were hearing. With all his dirty secrets out in the open, Alex ran away shortly after the revelation. As Casey finished reading all the messages, the guests applauded her, feeling proud of what she had done.
"I love all of you, and as horrible as this is, I'm glad you all are here. There will not be a wedding reception today, but instead, there will be a celebration of honesty, finding true love and following your heart even when it hurts," she then announced to the guests.
As soon as the story was posted online, it went viral overnight. Elle magazine even conducted a poll on its site for the readers to vote if they would do the same thing as Casey had done. About 60% of them said yes and praised Casey. There were also those who thought Casey's behaviors were uncalled for and unwise. What would you have done if you were Casey?
