TV reporters have been a part of our lives for years, but how much they actually take home might be more surprising than you thought.
1. Sean Hannity - $29 million
It seems that Sean Hannity is determined to conquer all aspects of entertainment, as he not only works as a news anchor but has also released several books and hosted his own radio show, The Sean Hannity Show. Perhaps that’s how he is able to earn $29 million a year.
2. Hoda Kotb - $2 million
Amazingly, Hoda’s career started back in Egypt in 1986, and the journalist has worked hard since then. Hoda now co-anchors the Today Show where she contributes to the fourth hour’s entertainment slot. All of her work means that Hoda takes home around $2 million a year.
3. Kelly Ripa - $16 million
Kelly Ripa started her career as an actress, but it wasn’t long before she was looking for a different role in front of the camera. Now, the star is the leading co-host of Live! with Kelly and Ryan, where she works with Ryan Seacrest and earns $16 million a year.
4. Kristine Leahy - $2 million
Kristine Leahy has worked with a lot of shows over the years thanks to studying journalism at Boston University. She has been the face of many broadcasts, like Fox Sports’ The Herd and American Ninja Warrior. It seemed like Fox wanted more female voices in sport, paying Kristine a yearly $2 million.
5. Diane Sawyer - $12 million
Diane Sawyer once worked as a weather forecaster but decided it wasn’t the career of her dreams. Instead, she began to work toward becoming a TV reporter and now hosts Good Morning America and ABC World News, where she is paid $12 million a year.
6. Robin Roberts - $14 million
Robin Roberts once worked as a local sports anchor in Mississippi before joining ESPN. She worked as a sportscaster for many years until Robin received the role of news anchor on Good Morning America, a role that continues to earn her $14 million a year.
7. Michael Strahan - $17 million
Being a former football star meant that Michael Strahan had a lot of professional insight, and he has put that to good use since appearing on Fox NFL Sunday, ABC’s Strahan and Sara, and Good Morning America. Being a sports analyst now earns Strahan an eye-opening $17 million a year.
8. Wendy Williams - $15 million
Wendy Williams started her career as a radio host where her outspoken views caused quite the stir. She has since founded her own talk show that earns her $15 million a year - as well as several awards.
9. Anderson Cooper - $11 million
Anderson Cooper once had an opportunity to join the CIA, but he decided to try his hand at journalism and hasn’t looked back. Anderson travels across the nation to make sure he is always on the frontline for Anderson Cooper 360°, earning his yearly $11 million paycheck.
10. Jim Rome - $30 million
Though it seems as though Jim Rome has built quite a career for himself on the radio, he has also become a famous face on our TVs, too. Jim has worked with the likes of CBS and ESPN over the years and now earns a staggering $30 million a year.
11. Matt Lauer - $28 million
Matt was once at the peak of his career and took home a whopping $28 million for his work. The news anchor was seen on the likes of Dateline NBC and the Today Show. He even hosted many Olympic Games ceremonies until several allegations forced him to hang up his reporting belt in 2017.
12. Jon Stewart - $25 million
While he might not be the most conventional of all TV reporters, Jon Stewart managed to bag himself a yearly $25 million paycheck due to his comedy skills and political knowledge. Jon hosted The Daily Show for 16 years before he left in 2015.
13. Rachel Maddow - $7 million
It’s her open views and having no fear of covering the latest political news to hit the headlines that have made Rachel one of the nation’s favorite TV reporters. Now, Rachel hosts her own nightly series, The Rachel Maddow Show, where she is paid $7 million a year.
14. Barbara Walters - $12 million
The View, ABC Evening News, and Today have all been greeted to someone that many regard to be the best TV reporter of our time: Barbara Walters. The star anchor also hosted her annual 10 Most Fascinating People list and continues to rake in $12 million for her work as a producer.
15. Bill O’Reilly - $20 million
Bill O’Reilly was one of the few stars to be there for the beginning of Fox News, and it wasn’t long before he earned his own show called The O’Reilly Factor. The series earned Bill $20 million a year until 2017 when his contract with the network was terminated due to several investigations into his personal life.
16. Terry Bradshaw - $4 million
Terry Bradshaw was a quarterback for many years before retiring from football in 1984. Thankfully, his time on the field meant the sports star had plenty of insights, and he has spent the last 25 years analyzing sports for Fox NFL Sunday - a role that earns him $4 million.
17. Julie Chen - $16 million
Julie Chen has worked hard to earn herself $16 million a year. The star was once co-hosting CBS’s The Early Show as well as appearing on The Talk for eight seasons. But that’s not all. She is also the longest-serving Big Brother host for any of the series.
18. Lester Holt - $4.5 million
Lester Holt has appeared on various CBS shows over the years, but that all changed when he signed up to NBC. Here, the journalist hosted Dateline and Nightly News, and officially became a leading anchor of the later in 2015. His promotion has helped Lester earn $4.5 million each year.
19. Joe Buck - $5 million
Though Joe Buck started his career by reporting on minor league baseball, Fox Sports were keen to hire him in 1994 to report the professionals instead. The sportscaster now also covers the National Football League game where his expertise of sports sees Joe take home an impressive $5 million a year.
20. Samantha Steele Ponder - $5 million
Samantha has built a successful career as a sportscaster, from working with ESPN reporting their college basketball and football all the way up to hosting Sunday NFL Countdown for the network. Her dedication has paid off as she earns $5 million a year, and met her now husband, Christian Ponder, thanks to her work.
21. Chris Matthews - $5 million
Matthews’ knowledge of politics has helped him build quite the career for himself. The journalist started out working for the United States Capitol Police, but now focuses most of his time on his show Hardball with Chris Matthews. His show’s popularity means Chris takes home $5 million a year.
22. Ann Curry - $5 million
This journalist has been working on the frontlines of some of the most devastating stories over the years, including several wars and natural disasters. Although Ann Curry was with NBC News for nearly 25 years, she decided to leave to start her own multimedia platform.
23. Maria Bartiromo - $6 million
Maria Bartiromo began her career working for CNN and CNBC before she amazed her fans and took a role at Fox News in 2013. Here, Maria has been handed several hosting positions and even became the leading news reporter to do a live broadcast from the New York Stock Exchange floor.
24. David Muir - $7 million
It took many years of work, but David Muir’s dedication finally paid off in 2014 when he was asked to replace Diane Sawyer on ABC World News Tonight. His time as the news anchor alongside his work as a co-anchor on 20/20 has helped David earn $7 million a year.
25. Al Roker - $8 million
Incredibly, Al Roker has been working with NBC for forty years where he has grown to be one of the most popular weather reporters. Here, he hosts the Today Show as well as Nightly News, and even broke the world record for reporting the weather for 34 hours without interruption.
26. Tom Brokaw - $8 million
Believe it or not, Tom Brokaw is the only person to have hosted Nightly News, Meet the Press, and the Today Show. Though Tom now spends the majority of his time behind the cameras, the star still earns himself a tidy $8 million a year.
27. Brian Williams - $10 million
Brian Williams was once one of the leading anchors of News Nightly until 2015 when the journalist misrepresented events from the 2003 Iraq War. However, Brian has since started his own show with MSNBC titled The 11th Hour with Brian Williams where he earns $10 million a year.
28. Jackie Guerrido - $10 million
Working as a meteorologist and journalist has seen Jackie Guerrido work from the radio all the way up to win a spot with Primer Impacto on Univision. That’s not all. Jackie now makes $10 million a year thanks to her work and is also involved with several charities.
29. Shepard Smith - $10 million
Shepard Smith has been working for Fox News since the beginning, and it looks as if he is here to stay. Shepard has hosted many of their shows over the years, and now earns a $10 million paycheck from serving as the chief anchor and editor of the breaking news division.
30. George Stephanopoulos - $10 million
George now works on several shows, including This Week, ABC World News Night, and Good Morning America, with all combining to earn him $10 million a year.
31. Meredith Vieira - $11 million
Working with the shows The View and Today saw Meredith Vieira become a household name, but that wasn’t all. Meredith is also known as the original host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. She now works as a contributor for Dateline, Nightly News, and Today, where she earns about $11 million a year.
32. Christiane Amanpour - $2 million
Christiane Amanpour started out working as a desk assistant at CNN back in 1983. Thankfully, she soon made her way up the journalism ladder until she was promoted to their Chief International Anchor. As if that wasn’t enough, Christiane also earns herself around $2 million for her nightly interview show, Amanpour.
33. Sam Champion - $2 million
During his 25-year career with the network, Sam Champion became one of the leading weather anchors for ABC. Sadly, he left to manage The Weather Channel and then moved on to NBC. Thankfully, Sam has since returned to ABC on a fill-in basis where he earns about $2 million a year for his work.
34. Lara Spencer - $3 million
Lara Spencer worked for The Insider and The Early Show for many years before landing her big break on Good Morning America. She is now one of the leading hosts of the show and earns a yearly $3 million paycheck due to her additional work as a correspondent for Nightline.
35. Nancy O’Dell - $3 million
Nancy O’Dell worked as one of the leading faces of Access Hollywood for 13 years until she left the show in 2009. Thankfully, she soon landed a spot with the syndicated entertainment news show Entertainment Tonight and has been there ever since. The TV reporter now takes home a tidy $3 million a year.
36. Abby Huntsman - $3 million
While working as an intern at Good Morning America, Abby Huntsman landed her big break. It wasn’t long before the journalist was snapped up by Fox & Friends before she decided to join ABC talk show The View instead. Now, Abby is paid $3 million a year for her time on TV.
37. Erin Burnett - $3 million
It seems as though Erin Burnett is used to appearing on TV thanks to her projects on Morning Joe, Nightly News, and Squawk on the Street. However, the news anchor is now hosting her own show named Erin Burnett OutFront, earning Erin $3 million a year.
38. Yanet Garcia - $3 million
Yanet Garcia is not just a standout weather reporter that earns $3 million a year, she is also a huge face on social media. She likes to share all her exercising tips with fans before returning to our screens to update us on the weather each day.
39. Natalie Morales - $1 million
Back in 2016, Natalie Morales moved to LA and went on to become the West Coast anchor for the Today Show as well as the host of Access Hollywood Live and Access Hollywood. Natalie has since continued to build a successful career for herself, earning $1 million each year.
