1. Emilia Clarke - Triassic Attack, 2010
Before her breakthrough as Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke appeared in a number of stage productions. Later she went to make a name for herself on television and was named as one of the "UK Stars of Tomorrow" by Screen International for her performance in the Syfy film Triassic Attack.
2. Kit Harington - War Horse, 2008
Before earning fame in GoT as Jon Snow in 2011, Kit Harington starred in a West End production of War Horse as Albert Narracott in 2008. At that time, he was studying at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
3. Peter Dinklage - Living in Oblivion, 1995
Peter Dinklage was already an experienced actor before playing Tyrion Lannister. He made his film debut in 1995's Living in Oblivion, playing an actor named Tito who was tired of being typecast. After some minor roles, the New Jersey-born actor finally made his breakthrough in the 2000s with films like Tiptoes and The Station Agent.
4. Jason Momoa - Baywatch: Hawaii, 1999
Before his acting career, Jason Momoa, the actor who played Khal Drogo in GoT, was a professional model. He even won the title of Hawaii's Model of the Year in 1999. Later Jason switched to acting with the role of Jason Ioane in the action drama series Baywatch Hawaii.
5. Richard Madden - Complicity, 2000
In real life, The King in the north started his career as a child star. Along with Jonny Lee Miller, Brian Cox, and Keeley Hawes, he played young Andy in the 2000 film Complicity. After Game of Thrones, he teamed up with Keeley Hawes again and gave us Bodyguard, the series that won him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
6. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - Nightwatch, 1994
Before his well-known role as Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was already a famous actor in his home country of Denmark. He starred in the 1994 film Nightwatch and went on to perform in his native Scandinavia and Europe.
7. Gwendoline Christie - Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 2015
Besides playing the iconic Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, English actress Gwendoline Christie also starred as the First Order stormtrooper Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
8. Lena Headey - Waterland, 1992
Lena Headey, who would later become Cersei Lannister, made her screen debut as the younger version of Sinéad Cusack's character, Mary in the 1992 film Waterland. After that, she continued to grow her career steadily, appearing in films, television series and also lent her voice to some video games.
9. Jack Gleeson - Batman Begins, 2005
You may not have noticed it, but Jack Gleeson, the actor of Joffrey Baratheon, made a small appearance in 2005's Batman Begins. He played an unnamed little boy in the Narrows who has a brief encounter with Christian Bale's Batman.

Decades before Game of Thrones, Iain Glen made his big screen debut in the 1988 movie Paris by Night. The film told the story of a British politician who was caught up with a murder in Paris. Although the film didn’t review well, it helped actor Iain Glen to launch his career. His other notable roles include Dr. Alexander Isaacs/Tyrant in the three films of the Resident Evil film series and Bruce Wayne in the DC Universe series Titans.
11. Carice van Houten - Suzy Q, 1999
Carice van Houten was already a widely acclaimed actress before becoming the Red Priestess Melisandre. Her first leading role was Suzy in the 1999 film Suzy Q, which won her the Golden Calf for Best Acting in a Television Drama.
12. Alfie Allen - Elizabeth, 1998
Alfie Allen was born into a Hollywood family. He is the son of film producer Alison Owen and actor Keith Allen. His uncle is actor Kevin Allen and he is also a third cousin of singer Sam Smith. In his early career, he and his sister Lily Allen appeared in Elizebeth, a film which was co-produced by their mother.

Nathalie Emmanuel started her career on stage, appearing in various West End productions. In 2006, she made her screen debut as Sasha Valentine in the soap opera Hollyoaks. This English actor and singer had a successful career before Game of Thrones. His notable roles include Paddy Garvey of the King's Fusiliers in the ITV series Soldier Soldier and fireman Kenny 'Rambo' Baines in the pilot of London's Burning. Liam Cunningham began his career long before his role as Davos Seaworth. He made his screen debut in Mike Newell's Heartwarming Into the West in 1992. But it was the 1995 film A Little Princes that gave him fame and universal acclaim.

Most people nowadays probably remember actor Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish in Game of Thrones, but long before that, he played Stuart Alan Jones in the Channel 4 television series Queer as Folk and its sequel, which gave him a British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Actor.
17. Conleth Hill - Blue Heaven, 1992
"Lord Varys" Conleth Hill spent much of his career on stage before Game of Thrones, though he did appear in a handful of television series. One of his most well known television roles was playing Roache in the British sitcom Blue Heaven.

Beginning his career in commercials, Isaac Hempstead Wright made his film debut as Tom Hill in the horror film The Awakening in 2011, the same year he earned his breakthrough as Bran Stark in Game of Thrones.
19. Hannah Murray - Skins, 2007
When actress Hannah Murray was just a teenager, she joined the British teen drama series Skins, and received a BAFTA Audience Award for her performance. She reprised the role in a feature-length episode during Skins' final season after she was already appearing as Gilly on GoT.
